Do you want to become a Personal Trainer? Do you want to become a great Personal Trainer?

Nowadays, it’s very easy to do a quick Google search and find the path towards becoming a Personal Trainer. There are a lot of different providers out there, offering a wide variety of qualifications, tips and tricks towards your new career path.

So although there are easily accessible ways to become a personal trainer, it’s much harder to find the ways to become a GREAT personal trainer!

Today we’re going to be sharing with you some of our tips and advice to help you on your way to becoming a great Personal Trainer. You might have the necessary qualifications, but we’re to help you build upon those to offer the best possible service you can provide to your clients.

Keep Learning

The basic necessity is to get a Personal Training qualification. But what makes you stand out is the dedication to keep learning, and to build a niche for yourself. With further education and training, you are either able to target a specialist clientele market, or you have the wider knowledge necessary to target more people.

Personal Skills

Personal Training is not just dependent on your ability to physically train. You need to have the proper personal skills, such as: communication; leadership; patience; motivation; and time management. Working on these skills will improve your interactions and relationships with your clients, and lead to your improvement as a personal trainer.

Get Plenty of Experience

Experience is a great way to become a better Personal Trainer. This could be your own experience in the gym - using different types of equipment, or trying out different exercises. You can also network and discuss with other Personal Trainers, sharing tips and tricks. Never rule out the mental experience you can share around discipline, focus and motivation.

Listen to your client

Your work needs to revolve around the client’s goals and what they hope to achieve. You can discuss with your client why they hired a Personal Trainer, what exercises they are comfortable with, and any background information such as injuries that will affect their training. Ultimately, it won’t work out unless you are always listening. You need to be a leader, teacher and listener all in one.

Sometimes, your clients will share things with you that very few people know. Trust is important. Great Personal Trainers respect this highly.

The important thing to remember is that with personal training, there is always something more you can be doing - it’s ongoing! However, the best Personal Trainers are always dedicated to improving, to be able to provide the best possible service to their clients.
